March 2005: an open Teacher's Day is held on the World Year of Physics at the Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, organised by the Institute of Physics of the Faculty of Science.

March 2005: three Hungarian institutes, the Institute of Computer Engineering of the Kandó Kálmán Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Budapest Polytechnic, Székesfehérvár, (7 March), the KFKI Research Institute for Particle and Nuclear Physics, Budapest (8 March) and the Department of Physics of the University of Debrecen (16 March) take part in the EPOG initiative "Hands on Particle Physics" • European Masterclasses for High-School Students.

24-hours non-stop physics show in the Palace of Miracles. From 18 April, 6 pm to 19 April, 6 pm (CEST) an attempt is made to set a new Guinness World Record. Physics experiments are demonstrated without interruption and without repeating any previous experiment. The show is transmitted in real time on the Internet.

19-20 April 2005: several schools, universities and physics-related institutions participate in the worldwide initiative "Physics Enlightens the World". The action in Hungary is coordinated by the Roland Eötvös Physical Society.

19 April 2005: “Electric current in the school director”: demonstration of physics experiments in the Hugonnai Vilma Medical College in Békéscsaba, organised by the Békés County Branch of the Roland Eötvös Physical Society.

5-10 September 2005: a PhD Conference on Astrophysics of Variable Stars is held at the University of Pécs.

The most important undertaking of physics popularisation: the organisers of the National TV University (Mindentudás Egyeteme) have invited several lectures on physics in the program of the first semester of 2005, which discuss why is physics so important for the modern society and what is the significance of the Year of Physics:

Switch to the velocity of light! "Can we produce the matter of the Universe on the Earth" • a movie on relativistic heavy-ion collisions and the quark-gluon plasma with shots at the accelerators in the Brookhaven National Laboratory, and CERN, Geneva as well as in Budapest.

The Laser People of Szeged • A movie on research in laser physics of the famous research groups of the University of Szeged as well as the Biological Research Center of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
The makers as well as scientific experts of the movies offer discussion sessions after showing the films on demand.

Throughout the year, local WYP actions are organised by the County Branches of the Roland Eötvös Physical Society. A special WYP website is operated by the Csongrád County Branch in Szeged.

A call for a competition for secondary schools to celebrate the World Year of Physics has been published by the Hungarian Nuclear Society. The awards will be used for developing the physics laboratories of the winning schools.
